Pro Puu (Pro Wood) center is housed in a former matchfactory Tikkula in the Lake Vesijärvi harbour. Next door is Sibelius Hall, the famous wooden congress and concert centre. Tikkula premises include a gallery and a shop, as well as offices and design spaces and an independently operating wood workshop.
The beautiful gallery is splendidly renovated respecting the original architectural features. It is a versatile and popular exhibition space. The association has been able to carry out its original idea to feature large variety of different types of wood related exhibitions in the gallery. Pro Puu gallery is a rentable exhibition space, displaying monthly different types of wood related exhibitions. In addition to exhibitions; concerts, seminars and private occasions belong to the activities in the gallery.
During the summer seasons the Attic gallery accommodates a permanent exhibition of wood joints.
The Gallery shop offers a fine selection of items which represent modern Finnish wood design. Innovation, quality and ethical issues have been the main criteria in the selection of the items.
The Pro Puu Center also houses a workshop where a group of Pro Puu member cabinetmakers have established their businesses.The workshop is a part of a larger Pro Puu workshop network. The network, from boatmakers to toymakers, is committed to Finnish wood and to the skillful use of traditional woodworking and joining methods.
